Ariel Lin and Vin Zhang's drama series I Will Never Let You Go 小女花不弃 just aired its final episode last night and too many things happened.  For those of you who haven't watched it yet, I suggest that you stop reading as there will be spoilers.

In the finale, Chen Yu (Vin Zhang) fakes his surrender to Dongfang Shi (Austin Lin) to defeat his army. In a daring plan to lure out Xiao Juifeng (Zhang Yan), Hua Buqi uses herself as bait to marry Dongfang Shi.

On the day of the wedding, Xiao Juifeng tries to kidnap Hua Buqi and that's when the deaths begin.  Mo Ruofei (Xing En) is killed by Dongfang Shi in a sword fight.  Yuan Chong (Xiao Xiangfei) tries to save Hua Buqi but is killed himself.  In another sword fight, all four characters engaged in battle end up killing each other and that includes Dongfang Shi's loyal subordinate, Lin Dansha (Lin Ziqing), her older brother and Yun Lang (Kris Sun Zujun).

Dongfang Shi is also killed after he tries to save Hua Buqi from his grandfather. Chen Yu is the last to fend off Xiao Jiufeng and they both fall into a well. Hua Buqi manages to catch Chen Yu's hand but it is apparent that she can't pull him up.  Before falling to his doom, Chen Yu tells Hua Buqi, "Promise me you will live well."

Literally in the last minute of the show, Chen Yu miraculously reappears before Hua Buqi who has been doing good deeds as the new Lianyi Ke. Seemingly surviving his fall, he tells her, "I'm also Lianyi Ke."

The ending seems to be a happy one but with the string of deaths in the episode, many hated it.  For some, it's another entry into the long list of Chinese dramas with terrible endings. Personally, I usually have no problem with writers killing off characters. It's just that all of these deaths happened in the last episode in an otherwise cheerful drama. The meeting of Chen Yu and Hua Buqi at the end was also kind of iffy for me.  I didn't know if it was a dream sequence or an actual meeting.

If it was indeed an actual face to face, then how did Chey Yu survive the fall, and where was he when Hua Buqi was dedicating her life to following his cause?  What do you guys think of the ending?

  1. A very disappointed drama. Characters popped in and out in the drama. They appeared for few episodes then disappeared. The story edit is not smooth and choppy.

Writers and editors of this drama should be fired.

  2. Should know by now that anytime main leads fall off cliff they end up surviving.....

  3. Stop watching after chen yu being stabbed by king. This drama turned out to be disaster with so many unexplained things. What is bi luo tian actually?? From the beginning there was always bi luo tian but until the end still not found nor answered

  4. It's like these screenwriters become increasing tired and lazy when it comes to wrapping up the story. It was fun to watch mid-way though, too bad it ended on a whimper.

  5. Thank you for the spoilers. Cdrama writers are so lucky China has so many mountains and cliffs. Otherwise, how would they ever write period drama scripts? Goodbye Princess, Dugu and Hua Buqi dramas all aired recently and have people falling off cliffs by episode 2 or 3. It's a matter of how far they fall.

I have mixed feelings about this drama from start. Xing En's MRF is a nice character. (But her makeup always looks weird to me. Very forceful brows, overshooting lower jaws. The actress' modern pics look so much more natural.) I'm not fond of many other characters. HBQ's character starts off cute but gets to be too high maintenance. Good thing they managed to hire ALin. I'm not impressed with the writing. For female-centric dramas, I much prefer Zhao Yao. ZY is less tropey. This HBQ plot has gotten really old. Is Austin Lin very popular in Taiwan right now? He's not that great in acting and I don't find him good looking.

  6. The ending was a bit too nonsensical and rushed without any sort of explanation of what happened. But I think having a relatively happy ending and being left with questions is preferable to a sad or open ending and being left with those same questions. The scriptwriters were just too lazy. This is based on a novel so the amount of choppy writing from them is puzzling.

The best thing about this drama was Ariel and BinBin. They have great chemistry and kept me watching until the end. I hope they can work together again soon.

  7. Loved the Ariel and ZBB pairing which made the drama ok for me. In comparison to the ending of Lan Ling Wang, I am happy with this one. The ending to Lang Ling Wang left me traumatized and I thought this ending was going to do the same. However, sense or no sense, I prefer the "happy ending" to a sad one any day.

  8. I thought Mo Roufei who be revealed as a women later on. It was clear that his/hers mother was trying to keep it a secret all along. There are too many stupid deaths in the end... While I loved Ariel/ ZBB in the drama...I am truly dissappointed to see all the characters die.

    1. I think the same as you. many unnecessary deaths😔

  9. I hate the ending since it seemed so rushing and just like other people said, the writer seemed too lazy to wrap up the story properly. With too many deaths and unanswered puzzles, they left us with disappointment. And how come Chen Yu survived then? It's kinda absurd to me lol. Anyway I'm happy with the chemistry between our leads. They did a great job until the end.

  10. Started off with promise, and like so many Chinese period dramas, can't pull it together for a proper ending. Disappointing. I really enjoyed main character interactions between Ariel, Vin and Austin. Sad that it's ended this way.

  11. My Review: I Will Never Let You Go. Here my last rant about this. At the last two episodes there was a blood bath. Nearly all of the main characters were killed off. Why? It was so unneccesary Surely writers you could have saved some of them. (Quote from Viki commentors)The writers write the ending but the actors and actresses make it believable or dramatic and memorable. So writers your job is to make the viewers happy and not frustrated and so very, very angry. We won't come back if you keep doing this to us. You would think that Chen You would be more aware of a trap but no he gets caught by his horrible traitor friend. After that pretty stressful story line and the ending depends how you want it to end. I made up my own cos I can. I finally finished watching it . It was a Classical Chinese Historic Drama you got what you expected but it may or may not make you happy. My hint to writers your job is to make the viewer happy and not frustrated. Then you revived the main actor you should have left him dead it didn't make us happy we had already mourned him and believed he couldn't survive that fall. You killed too many people off letting that one live was unnatural to the way things had happened already. It reminded me of"I'm sorry. I love you." That’s another drama who ending brassed me off but I hear that was actually a true story. I had another quick flick through this and I haven’t changed my mind the end sucked big time. Wasted my time coming here to watch the babe Zhang Bin Bin.

  12. Umm...the ending made no sense.

    1) How did Chen Yu survive and why did he take so long to re-appear in front of HB?
    2) What IS biluotian? IS she the saintess? Answers please.
    3) Why would MRF suddenly change character so much?
    4) What happened to the twins?

Overall, very poorly tied up. In fact, not tied up at al.

  13. I agree that there is no explanation to the ending. The plot seems to be well composed until the end. They let us guess how he could survive. The ending gave us a clue somehow. The emperor said about destroying the secret place at the end. He has never got the map and how could they know where it is and go to clean up the place. There must be some wrap up to make it clearer indeed.

  14. Wait, I'm sorry, I love you based on true story? Which one, the korean version one?

  15. the old man may cushion the fall of chen yu???!!! this could happen👀😶

  16. Total waste of time after watching 51 ep😣😭
