Xu Kai's next drama after Story of Yanxi Palace is a live-action xianxia

Xu Kai Once Upon A Time, There Was A Spirit Blade Mountain
Xu Kai returns to costume dramas for his next project, and it is a live-action drama based on the Chinese xianxia novel There Was Once A Spirit Blade Mountain 从前有座灵剑山 by Guowang Bixia 国王陛下. The novel also came out on Tencent comics and was subsequently made into an anime titled Reikenzan: Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage.

I had never heard of it before, but the fact that Tencent is pushing this franchise must mean something and it's come full circle now with the live-action drama adaptation. Fantasy wuxia seems to be a rite of passage for young stars, so I'm not at all surprised that Xu Kai would take on the role. He plays the hero Wang Lu, a young genius from the future who starts on a path of cultivation.

  1. it feels so weird haha i'm so used to see him as a personal guard in untouchable lovers but with yanxi palace he has become quite popular! :D

  2. His DV case did not affect his popularity. The news is also blanketed over. Since he did not deny it. I suspect he might have settled with his ex to move on and not bring up the case.

    1. Honestly was really surprised when I read his ex’s weibo because he seems very mild mannered in all his interviews...The whole playboy cheating thing sounds totally plausible, I mean he’s good looking and he was like what 19-20? That kind of thing is a common occurrence on college campuses. But I sort of suspect the dv is not exactly like his ex claims, the timing and photos just seem off to me. I don’t know, something’s just weird about it and both his exs Bai Lu and Zhang Nan are under the same company as him, I doubt they’d be able to seem professional with him if he was violent towards them. Domestic violence is unforgivable but it also really sucks to have that smearing your reputation if it isn’t true.

    2. His ex is a social media personality, I would take what she says with a grain of salt. It basically started because she saw a photo Bai lu posted which had the bed sheets that this ex bought for Xu kai and she got pissed off. So she then goes on to post a bunch of messages between him and girls he’s slept with as if a sexually liberal male = an abusive partner. It’s called a booty call, if both parties are consenting what’s the problem. She’s the definition of a bitter ex.

And the photos of her face? She has selfies of her having an allergic reaction to skincare and it’s swollen the exact same way. The girl is a liar.

    3. Um not really. Anytime he makes the headlines the first few comments are always ‘domestic violence boy’. So no it’s following him. He deserves it if it’s true but if it’s not true then I feel bad for him. Personally I have reservations about people who air out all their relationship details on the web, I’m not sure I believe everything his ex claims. Regardless I hope he does better and better, in his personal life and in acting.
