First Look at Crystal Liu as Mulan

Mulan Crystal Liu
Disney just announced that Mulan has officially began production and I am excited. It's one my favorite Disney movies along with my daughters. The songs are catchy, the animation is amazing and the story is heartwarming. There will be a lot of expectations, but Disney had quite a success with Beauty and the Beast so I am definitely hopeful.

I am also curious to see the transformation of Crystal Liu from a woman to a man since she has such distinctly feminine features. What are you excited to see in the live-action Mulan movie?

  1. Uh, not really. She’s probably gonna have her hair up and really light makeup.

I wish it was somebody else. LYF is overrated.

    1. Totally overrated. While she is considered a goddess, many times she looks plain. Yes, with heavy makeup shes can look pretty. She still cannot emote. I hope her English improves.

    2. "[...] her hair up and really light makeup." You forgot really thick eyebrows Oh, and people are gonna realize she's a girl when she lets her hair down.

  3. I think she can. I watched Eternal Love the movie that I think her acting was decent ..better than her ROCH days. And I think she's is also very pretty. Not because of make up, but she is indeed pretty. She wouldnt be praised for her role as XLN if it was just because of make up.

  4. Based on the tidbits of the script that have been floating around, I am not excited. Rumor has it that there is no Shang Li and that they added a witch (Gong Li) involved and Mulan having super powers!!?! Ugh. The whole point of Mulan was that a girl (just as any man) can also save her family and country by her own merit and skills; not base on super abilities. Wish they just focused on the core story of Mulan vs embellishing it to blah....Unless they revised the script, I will stick to the Zhao Wei film and the Disney animated classic.

    1. Yeah, they're really changing the script and it's not the Mulan storyline that we're all familiar with. Such as the cartoon or other tv series or movies. I'm not planning on watching this.

  5. I actually dont mind about the omition of Shang and the addition of Gong Li, because ..well, it's Gong Li. She should be amazing. Yeah, this wont be the Mulan like the animated one, but perhaps I'm okay because the Zhao Wei version is also different. Oh well, we'll see how this is gonna be

  6. I don't understand why it isn't going to be like the animated version. All the other live action Disney adaptations were very close adaptations of the animated versions so why have they decided to deviate so drastically for the Mulan movie. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

    1. I read somewhere that it's because it's showing romance between two "guys" since Mulan is going to be pretending to be male, and Shang Li is also male... So they just took him out and replaced him with another character.

    2. I've read about it too. Honestly, when I watched Mulan the anime, I didnt think that Shang was attracted to Mulan (in a romantic kinda way). That's why I was surprised when I read articles like that

  7. I agree. There are so many better choices that LYF. She doesn't act good. I wish they would put a more prominent actress to represent Mulan. Shes too girly for this role I think.
