Dilraba Dilmurat and Vengo Gao confirm for Three Lives Three Worlds The Pillow Book

Dilraba Dilmurat Vengo Gao return for Three Lives Three Worlds sequel
Inasmuch as I love c-dramas, I can't blame the bad rep that it's been getting for having terrible if not downright cop out endings for awesome dramas, often resulting in people wishing demanding that a sequel be made. Three Lives Three Worlds Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms thankfully doesn't fall into that category though it's a story that would have been even more perfect if it just continued the romance between Feng Jiu and Dong Hua whose story ended in a standstill despite the two being in love. There's certainly enough material to cover considering that both characters are the main protagonists in the novel Three Lives Three Worlds The Pillow Book 三生三世枕上书 also written by Tang Qi Gong Zi.

Three Lives Three Worlds The Pillow Book
I can't believe that I'm waking up to this news but I love that finally, there's a drama that has heard our pleas and delivers in the most satisfying way. Dilraba Dilmurat and Vengo Gao who played Feng Jiu and Dong Hua have both confirmed as the leads in a drama adaptation which will revolve around a romance across two thousand years. They're a fan favorite as a couple pairing, but did you know that they have already acted together 6 times?

  15. Well, actually, it’s not a sequel or a continued story. For TMOPB, the drama writers didn’t yet have the copyrights to “The Pillow Book,” so they made up Fengjiu/Dijun’s story arc. It isn’t canon. The real story (from before The Pillow Book happens — which is 2,000 years prior) is really very different, and the novel tells us through flashbacks.

So, it’s actually not a sequel. In the novel, in Dijun’s mind, he hasn’t met Fengjiu yet, ‘cause he didn’t know that the baby fox that he took care of was actually Fengjiu. (Read below, I added in a few parts of the book. There’s a link at the bottom; someone shows the differences between TMOPB Fengjiu/Dijun story arc to the book.)

Besides, there are two volumes of The Pillow Book, so it would’ve distracted from Bai Qian and Ye Hua’s love story.

Anyway, about Dijun not knowing the red fox was Fengjiu —> In the second volume, you’ll read:

*Back then on Jiuchongtian, had he known his pet fox was the young queen of the Bai family in Qingqiu, what would he have done? Donghua thought about this and felt more likely than not he would return Fengjiu back to Qingqiu. If the baby fox had saved him in the Wicked Lotus Sphere, then he would gift her with some Heavenly treasures as a show of gratitude. He undeniably adored her, but it wasn't exactly convenient to keep the queen of an entire clan to raise as a pet.*

Also, in the first volume, you’ll read:

*To save Donghua from danger, she didn’t think twice about trading her appearance, her voice, and her precious nine tails to turn into a baby fox. Well, she might have had an ulterior motive. She thought that as with the love she had given him in return for his kindness, he might love her back in return for her kindness. After 2000 years of hard work, she was finally reaping some reward. But life was always unpredictable.*
*After her wounds got better, Donghua implicitly allowed her to stay by his side day and night to keep him company. She really felt those were some of her happiest days. Although as a red baby fox she had lost all magical abilities, she was still utterly satisfied. She was happy even in her dreams.*

Also, someone wrote this comparison: https://mydramalist.com/discussions/ten-great-iii-of-peach-blossom/28756-spoilersdifference-between-eternal-love-pillow-book

I’m really curious if they’ll stick to the book, never-minding what they wrote in the script for the couple in the TMOPB drama.

Since the TMOPB drama starts off with Bai Qian becoming the 17th Disciple (whereas the novel starts off in Episode 26 of the drama), I’m guessing The Pillow Book drama will start off at the beginning of the novel’s flashbacks. Chronological order.
