Cast revealed for newest adaptation of Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Saber

Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Saber cast Zeng Shun Xi
Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Saber 新版倚天屠龙记 which is the third and last part to the Condor Heroes trilogy has begun filming and has revealed its cast led by Joseph Zeng Shun Xi (Fighter of the Destiny) and Yukee Chen (Heavy Sweetness Ash-like Frost). Li Dong Xue plays the main character's father while Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow takes on the role of Miejue Shitai, a character that I've grown to loathe in every single iteration of the story. It's worth noting that Kathy Chow's popularity rose to greater heights after playing Zhou Zhiruo in the 1994 adaptation of Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber, which makes her casting that much more meaningful.

Adaptations based on Jin Yong novels tend to be endlessly recycled that one could argue that there's one too many at this point though I'm honestly liking both leads who have proven charming as supporting characters in other dramas despite being relatively new. Besides, they seem to have enough appeal to make a convincing Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min. I'm sold, please make my favorite drama come alive and make it good. The next question is, who's playing Zhou Zhiruo?

  1. Wasn't Joseph Zeng also cast in the Legendary Twins adaptation?

  2. Nice they cast relative newcomers who aren't overexposed like some of the names I saw thrown around in the previous post.

@Anne J: I'm not familiar with the story. Why is it your favourite drama?

    1. oh, where do I begin? I love the misunderstood MC though he's technically your standard do-gooder that gets discriminated because his mom is from the Evil Sect. I love martial arts dramas and this one pretty much has everything a fan can hope for. The storytelling is ambitious and there's a whole ensemble of characters to follow. Most Jin Yong dramas are like that actually, which is why many of them are my faves. Do you watch wuxia? Hopefully this drama turns out well, so it'll be worth recommending:)

    2. @ Anne J: Awww our enthusiasm is infectious! I hope it lives up to your expectations! ^_^ I've barely seen any wu xia because they tend to be led by males and I prefer dramas with female protagonists and from a purely superficial POV aesthetically the older wu xias aren't appealing to me.

    3. lol did i get carried away.. Yes, I hope so. I get why the older wuxia aren't that appealing and fantasy seems to be the in thing, but who knows, maybe this is it.

  3. To be honest, I am disappointed with this casting. One thing is getting newcomers but I think they should have gotten people with a little more experience. I have not been impressed with either lead but at least they are not awful so there is hope.
