C-drama Ratings and Celeb Rankings (week starting Jul 3)

Princess Agents Deng Lun
We've got a pretty erratic week as we send a few shows on their way and welcome new ones to the fold. My Ruby My Love managed to beat out Rush to the Dead Summer on its last day though both fell behind Advisors Alliance which surprisingly shot up to reign over primetime even if it's only for one day.

Rush to the Dead Summer quickly reclaimed the spot but eventually lost to  The First Half of My Life, which had a solid start at 0.863% and rose to first place by the end of the week with ratings of 1.345%. The youthful sports drama Boyhood starring the TFBoys premiered on Sunday with some catching up to do though it's pulling in numbers that are quite close to competition, which should make the coming weeks all the more exciting.

Advisors Alliance Janine Chang

Come rain or shine, Princess Agents remains the uncontested ratings champion as it flirts within the 2.0 range. The show has finally brought in Deng Lun who proves to be fabulously flamboyant. I wasn't too crazy about his over-the-top antics at first, but the hints that there is more to him than meets the eye is thoroughly intriguing. Seriously, he knows martial arts and can kick butt, right? I can't say for sure that he's the reason for the ratings uptick but the day he was introduced was the only time that the show crossed to a high of 2.005% this week.

I really wonder if these things are coordinated because Advisors Alliance also followed a similar trajectory with the addition of Janine Chang who is bound to wreak havoc in the Sima household as the second wife.

  1. Since Princess Agents is the one I'm watching.....

Finally, we have some plot movement! But really, this should have been a good 10-12 episodes ago. I think I'll just have to resign myself to the show not being too faithful to the source material and just enjoy it on its own merits. Even by that metric, they're dawdling too much. Too much filler.

Also, I kind of feel bad for Yan Xun, because it seems like the show has decided to go in the unrequited love direction for him. His relationship with Chu Qiao is an exact mirror of his relationship with Chun-er, except that now he's the one in love while Chu Qiao is the non-committal one/one who loves him like a sibling.

And then the reversal of the love relationship when it comes to the main couple too - unlike many shows, here it's the man- Yuwen Yue - who suffers long and patiently for his love, without asking to be loved in return. So I'mma guess that it's the woman, Chu Qiao, who's gonna finally realize how much she's loved one day, and come do the groveling. Be interesting to see.

And whatever happened to Xiaoqi and Xiaoba?

    1. Having never read the novel, I'm free to enjoy the show as it is without making any comparisons :D But I do agree there are a lot of filler scenes. Ex) Ah Jing trying to give a present to his crush. What in the world was that.

As for Xiaoqi and Xiaoba, I hope they never appear again unless they somehow become important to the plot. I didn't like them one bit, lol.

  2. I'm surprised by Boyhood. It's the type of drama I'd think no one will watch. I mean, TF Boys and a youth plot spell flop to me, but apparently I'm wrong...
