Fighter of the Destiny 择天记 is a 55-episode Chinese xianxia based on a novel by Mao Ni 猫腻 about a fourteen-year-old orphan who is not meant to live past the age of twenty. He leaves everything that he knows behind in order to find a cure for his ill-ridden physique, thus embarking on a magical adventure of a lifetime.
Luhan (The Great Wall), Gulnezer Bextiyar (Chinese Paladin 5) and Janice Wu (Love O2O) headline as the cast of young heroes. Aside from the novel's existing fanbase, much of the interest is undeniably due to Luhan's popularity, which is probably also the reason why the show easily secured an air date not long after it wrapped last November.
After being slated for a summer premiere that was moved to May and eventually April, the powers that be have timed its broadcast to match Lay Zhang's Operation Love. For those who don't know, Lay and Luhan used to be bandmates in the k-pop group EXO that saw Luhan's departure some years ago.
On another note, leading lady Gulnezer Bextiyar is gorgeous as always but her attachment to the project is met with mixed reception since she often gets flak for continuing to land big roles in spite of her greenness. Regardless, it's a show that has been surrounded with buzz ever since its inception and I'm excited to finally see it on the small screen.
